I made the shortlist!

Wow! I made the shortlist of eight first lines in agent Nathan Bransford's contest. Voting is in full swing, and I'm putting in a decent showing, though it looks like another entrant has established a pretty good lead.

Just making the last eight out of five hundred or more is pretty exciting, and I couldn't be happier. I've also been heartened by some of the very kind words from various people, so my thanks to them.

:)

He's painfully easy to embarrass, girls. It's part of his charm.

That, and the accent.

I'm glad you made the short list, I was pulling for you, as you saw on my list! I do feel a strange affinity to your line because I was the first to comment on your post that this was my favorite out of all your first liners. So it filled me with glee to see you entered it and that it made the semi-finals. I feel like patting my own back for backing a winner!

I hope you win!

Thanks everyone for your support, it's much appreciated. And yes, I did blush.

Nathan made a comment in his last post asking poeple not to campaign on anyone in particular's behalf, and I think we should respect that. Besides, I've done a tally and one entry has stretched a significant lead, so I'm probably out of the running. But thanks again.

I'm just really happy that I made the shortlist. I'm just beginning the query process, so it was great to get a boost like this when I'm feeling at my most insecure with my writing.

It's a great line! Don't waste your time with that insecurity business.

Well, I did heed Prince Bransford's command after he made it...

I agree with Betsy. Yours was the only first line that suggested deep things to come.

I still think yours was best, too. :-)

I look forward to reading your books once you're published. Congratulations on the compliment of making the shortlist in this contest.

I hope Nathan Bransford is on your submission list, as, whatever anybody else thought, he shortlisted your line and that's a seal of approval! Or are you only querying in the UK?

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I think Jeanne deserved the win.

McKoala - I'm not going to be posting about the query process in terms of who bites and who doesn't. There's a chance any agent I query will look up website, and subsequently this blog, so it wouldn't be prudent to then present them with a list of rejections! :)
