Introducing my agent, Nat Sobel

Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 9:00 AM

I am thrilled to announce that I'm now represented by literary agent Nat Sobel of Sobel Weber Associates, New York. Nat Sobel is one of the longest established and most respected agents in the business, and his clients include: James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia, American Tabloid), Joseph Wambaugh (The Choirboys, The Onion Field, Hollywood Station), Pulitzer winner Richard Russo (Nobody's Fool, Empire Falls, Bridge of Sighs), F.X. Toole (Rope Burns - adapted for the screen as the multi Oscar winning Million Dollar Baby - and Pound for Pound), Robert Jordan (the Wheel of Time series), Tim Dorsey (the Serge Storms series), and many more.

If you'd like to know more about Nat, check out the Sobel Weber Associates website. You can also read an excellent in depth interview that recently appeared at the Poets & Writers website.

There a few blogging friends I must thank for their support over recent weeks:

Sex Scenes at Starbucks - Betsy, without your encouragement and belief, THE GHOSTS OF BELFAST (like the new title?) would never have been written, and your recent support has been above and beyond the call of duty.

McKoala - From the first draft, through to the latest, your insights have been invaluable.

Josephine Damian - Where would I be without your tough-love critique and booty shakes?

And also, a shout out to Moonrat, whose advice came at just the right time.

How Nat came to be my agent is a story in itself, and I'll post about it in the next day or two (clue: it wasn't through the slush pile). Stay tuned...

This could not have happened to a more talented or deserving writer than you.

I've been singing your praises for ages - it's about time the literary world took notice.

Way to go, Stuart. Another former Snarkling makes big. I too thought your contest submissions on Nathan's blog were slam-dunk winners. Betsy told me a year ago you were going to break through. She was right.

I was going to come over here and give you a what for since you haven't been around EE's blog lately. (What, you too high falutin' for us?) We didn't have much interaction, but I've missed you over there.

But I can't do it. I'm too thrilled for you! Congratulations!!!

Wow, what a day! It's been a bit of a whirlwind, and I've been inundated with emails (including from some name authors, much to my surprise and delight). Between everything else that's going on, it's going to take me a few days to respond to you all, but I want you to know I really appreciate the good wished.

Incidentally, as if today wasn't splendid enough, a wonderful thing happened this evening - it was getting late and I hadn't eaten, and I left my office to see what the microwave could offer. Just as I passed my front door, the bell rang. I opened it to see a young man with a Chinese food delivery. A brief debate convinced him that I hadn't ordered it. He then said, "Well, you might as well have it anyway."

Thus I finished off a pretty great day with a free Chinese meal. And it was duck, my favourite. Ah, life.

Hi Conduit! Congratulations! What awesome, inspiring news. I haven't been over to the crapometer much lately, but that's where I first saw some of your work and thought it was kick ass. You also paid me a very nice compliment on the first chapter I posted there, and I was very grateful for that encouragement. I wish you all the best, and man, what a feeling you must have right now. Awesome. Enjoy it, soak it in. Congratulations!

Another thanks to everyone who came over to say hello. I'll visit you all soon.

DrNic - Howdy, Nic! *feels slight nervousness at encountering someone he actually knows in the real world* Yep, still playing and teaching, though less time for the lessons these days. I've not been gigging for the last six months or so, but a guitar is always close to hand. I've gone all acoustic in my old age. Give us a shout some time if you're back in these parts.
